I had a faint idea pop into my head, not sure of how it could work. We could create some sort of auction house in the trade district and auction off items that players may need. While of course using coal as the currency. Just an idea to toss around in everybody's head -Yoda5212

I think that's a cool idea. Might even be able to get an occasional admin-spawned item to get people interested. You going to build it?

Not at the rate you are donating to the subway fund.

I believe we already have a large lot set aside for the subway station.

i wanna build it on one of the larger shop plots, how much do one of those cost anyways? You want to build the auction house on one of the larger plots? Hm... Do you have any plans for the layout or anything? I have a few ideas that MIGHT work... There could be a room with chests in it that you can store auction goods in - For example on how business would work: AuntBeast comes to you wanting to sell you cake for 20c, - you can do a few things to make fairly big money from this:1.) Buy it for 20c, then when the auction comes around, say "Bidding starts at 20c" - You can only go up from there, and if noone wishes to buy it - put it on hold for the next auction and try a different strategy. 2.) Buy it for 10c, and offer 5% to 10% (Or more, if you wish) of the final profits to her. - This will allow you to buy items in bulk from players, auction them for larger amounts (such as "Bidding starts at 15c", auto-earning more coal instantly) _________________________________________________ Also, after watching the storage wars show with my dad quite a bit... It gave me an idea on how the bank can benefit the auction house. If someone purchases a bank vault, there are a few things they can do to lose it. - If they grief/cause issues and they are banned, their lockers are immediately owned by the bank, since they no longer have privileges in the server. These lockers will still be protected by the bank, and unlocked by an administrator if they were LWC'ed. Anyone may bid on the locker (Except me, the banker - because I will probably know what's inside, and that's not fair.) - So.. It's a bit of a gamble. You can say "Bidding starts at 64 coal." - And people gradually raise the cost of the locker. The highest bidder gets the locker, and gets to finally see what they've won. - They may win a stack of coal, a few stacks of coal, some food, or even a ton of diamond tools. - It's all a gamble, and that's the fun of it (and what makes it most valuable). _________________________________________________ Also, the bank can provide advertisement to your auction house. - In the top floor of the bank, we have an "Advertise Jobs" and an "Advertise Goods" board placed on either side of the room. - Currently the advertisement is free (although, not many people go to see it) - but will cost money to remove someone from the list once it gets full. (Survival of the fittest when it comes to businesses). This way, people that visit the bank to buy a locker, access their locker, or just explore the building if they're new, can see the board and thus know about your auction house. _________________________________________________ Overall, I think the auction house is a great idea, and I'd be glad to help if you need any assistance (Whether it be the bank advertising for you, providing lockers that were taken away to you so you can auction the contents, or even just participate in the auctions to earn you more money.) If you need any gathering of materials let me know as well. - I have all-diamond tools, so I can go gather some wood, cobble, whatever you need. - I recently gave away 200 blocks of iron and about 25 or so blocks of gold to the subway fund... So I'm running a bit low on those... (But I can get some more!) - Sorry for the wall o' text! - I just enjoy helping out when it comes to projects. -Robert

I'm thinking the current "Subway Plot" might be a good place if it's going to be a community building. It's RIGHT next to spawn so I would hope the design of the building would be up to "spawn standards." You will have to check with the other admins, but since we are doing a subway under the Tardis this lot is probably going to be open eventually.

can we also build auction houses in our towns such as torchwood or will all be just one main auction house?

Housing plots in spawn are a hot commodity. I don't really know what happens when someone gets banned. Would it be possible to put the house/mine/whatever up for auction, then if the new owner wants it razed, it can be done, otherwise, they get it lock, stock and barrel? This is assuming that Robert has the plot of his dreams, otherwise, we'll all be screwed.

thanks for all the ideas Robert, and thanks for the support everybody, i will get started on the project as soon as tommorow, my mind on the server has been focused on building Torchwood. Anybody willing to help out is more then welcome. Griff- We have a subway plot? i might know what your talking about, but still not sure, lol. But all those ideas should be applied towards the auction, quite a complex system it could turn out to be, but i can see it turn out to be amazing!

A few of the businesses near spawn (Sky corp, etc) was wanded when they were banned from the server... - So those plots are open for the picking as well. The best place I could think of is what Griff said - The plot RIGHT by the tardis (the previous spot for the subway, which was then moved to under the tardis) is open - provided whoever took it (Aunt, Tiger, whoever it was) doesn't need/want it =) It would need to be like Griff said, though... - It would have to have an appealing look to it, rather than pure brick, pure stone, etc. - and have to be out-of-the-box a little bit. This way it could catch people's eye, and maybe make some more money. (plus, being by spawn, it SHOULD look appealing - new guys see that right when they leave the room!) yoda5212I think you could do it, though. - If you need any help with outside cosmetics or the layout inside, feel free to contact me or any of the other people that respond seeming interested to the project. - Most of us have been working on digging out thousands of blocks of the subway (Griff and I worked to get to block 3200-something on the North tunnel, AuntBeast worked and got the [East, I think?] tunnel all the way to the end as well) - Whenever we finish this project, or at least come closer to the final product (or even just need a break), let us know when you're going to start working - we (provided we aren't busy) MAY want a role in it =P I can vouch for AuntBeast having out of the box ideas, such as the hedge maze and petting zoo - and she thinks it through extremely well (like the mob trap with signs to prevent lava, etc - i didn't even know it was even possible) - and Griff/Meg are really good with architectural stuff. (I'm good with keeping track of items/jobs and designing layouts) Somewhat off-topic in relation to the auction house, but I have to say that the town you are working on (Torchwood) looks great so far. - I warped there today to see what it was like, and the houses were all mossy, dark, and had an almost gothic-like feel to the neighborhood. (Perhaps the night time helped with it) - but I like the layout... - The only real suggestion I could think of is to have some street lights, lamps, etc. (something of the sort) to brighten the road a little bit. - The style is cool, but the endermen think so as well - they'll show up to party and beat the $#!7 out of your houses. Anyways... Beginning to turn this into "WALL O' TEXT 2.0"... So I might as well end it because I could type all day =) Best of luck with your project, Yoda! -Robert
