Before I get into it, I want to state that I, Credan, do not care whether or not currency is added, I'm fine with bartering. I am making this thread to show the pros and cons.
---
Pro for Currency:
Currency allows for trade when one party doesn't have items to trade with another party for their items.
Con for Currency:
It's somewhat needless given there are so many items that can be used for trade and you could find someone else to trade with when you can't make a deal.
---
Example:
Susie wants Iron, the only other person on at the time that has some to trade is Robert.
With Currency:
Susie offers cobble for Robert's iron. But Robert doesn't want her cobble. Susie than offers Robert money. Robert agrees if she has enough. They trade, now Robert has the money, that he can use to make a trade of his own.
Without Currency:
Susie offers cobble for Robert's iron. But Robert doesn't want her cobble. Susie can offer other items to make a trade, but if Robert doesn't want anything Susie can offer, the trade is off. So Susie will have to either find someone else to trade with, or gather the iron herself.
